Enjoy a city tour of the beautiful Kigali, visit Nyungwe Forest for a canopy walk and chimpanzee trekking, explore Volcanoes National Park and trek the gentle giants as well as Akagera National Park for a game drive and boat cruise.
Today you will arrive at Kigali International Airport and check into the reserved accommodation for lunch and relaxation. Opt to go and explore the beautiful Kigali City and check out the Kigali Genocide memorial museum, Inema Art Centre and the Kimironko market. Dinner and an overnight stay at your reserved accommodation.
The Nyungwe Forest is one of the oldest and largest rainforests in Africa. The forest is situated in Southwestern part of Rwanda and is the only park in Rwanda that offers canopy walks, alongside chimpanzee trekking, waterfall tours and hikes. You will take a 90-meter exploration canopy walk in which you will be able to have an aerial view of the whole park and possibly stumble across several monkey and bird species.
After having breakfast, you will embark on the chimpanzee trekking activity. These primates share 97% of man’s DNA and are referred to as man’s closest relatives. The trek starts with a briefing from your ranger guide about your chimpanzee trek. You will then head into the forest after briefing to locate the chimpanzees. After locating the chimpanzees, you are allowed to have one hour with them. You will then return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight.
Today you will transfer to Volcanoes National Park which happens to be the oldest national park in all of Africa and is dominated by the 8 Virunga volcanoes. This park is a habitat of the endangered mountain gorillas and the golden monkeys. You will arrive in the park in time for lunch, after which you can opt to hike to the grave of Diane Fossey. During this hike, you will be able to see Dian Fossey’s tomb, Karisoke Research camp, Mount Karisimbi, golden monkeys, and a variety of birds. Dinner and an overnight at your accommodation.
After an early morning breakfast, your driver guide will drive you to the park headquarters where you will meet your ranger guide for briefing on the dos and don’ts while out in the forest. After this briefing, you will head into the forest for the trek. The trek can take between 30minutes to 7 hours depending on where the gorilla family is situated. Once you have located a family, you will be allowed 1 hour with them observing their behavior and taking photos. You will then return to your lodge for lunch after which you will drive to Akagera National Park.
The Akagera National Park in Rwanda is Central Africa’s largest protected wetland. Hugging the border of Tanzania, the park has a great diversity of landscapes, mountain scenery, lakes, and golden savannas. Go on a morning game drive in the park where you will be able to see the famous big 5 and other wildlife species like zebras, giraffes, elephants. In the afternoon, you will take a boat ride along Lake Ihema where you will be able to see large families of hippos and crocodiles.
After having a morning breakfast, our driver guide will drive you to the airport where you will catch your flight back home.
