JOURNEY TO THE VOLCANOES’ HEART

Today you will transfer to Volcanoes National Park which happens to be the oldest national park in all of Africa and is dominated by the 8 Virunga volcanoes. This park is a habitat of the endangered mountain gorillas and the golden monkeys. You will arrive in the park in time for lunch, after which you can opt to hike to the grave of Diane Fossey. During this hike, you will be able to see Dian Fossey’s tomb, Karisoke Research camp, Mount Karisimbi, golden monkeys, and a variety of birds. Dinner and an overnight at your accommodation.

After an early morning breakfast, your driver guide will drive you to the park headquarters where you will meet your ranger guide for briefing after which you will head into the forest for the trek. The trek can take between 30minutes to 7 hours depending on where the gorilla family is situated. Once you have located a family, you will be allowed 1 hour with them observing their behavior and taking photos. You will then return to your lodge for lunch, relaxation, and dinner.

Today you will drive to Lake Kivu after your morning breakfast. The lake happens to be the largest freshwater lake in Rwanda. Unlike other lakes in East Africa, you can swim here in Lake Kivu because it does not have hippos and crocodiles. Take a relaxing boat ride as you enjoy the cool lake breeze and scenic shore views. After the boat ride, you will return to the hotel for an overnight stay.

After an early morning breakfast our professional driver guide will drive you back to Kigali where you will catch your flight back home.
